Why is my battery discharging quickly after only 8 months?

My Macbook Air 13" July 2013 has recently begun to discharge very quickly (2 hrs Max) and when I recharge, it's super quick (from 6% to 100% in under 30 min)

Have tried it sleeping with no programs in background, no difference. Can't see anything on activity monitor.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

1. did you often drain the battery very low?

2. did you often /always have your macbook on charge,......or did you often / always BOTH have your macbook on charge AND in sleep mode?

1 or 2 are harsh on the battery chemistry and therefore its longevity

all batteries are consumables meant to replaced either in their own "due time" or early due to abuse / misuse.

1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the limit for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.

2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.9 or later.

3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked

Enable Power Nap while on battery power

4. You can also try resetting the SMC.

5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.

6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

Mabey I'm thick, but it appears to me that the iPhone/iPad/iPod, is not switched off, nor is it fully on when charging. I personally would call this sleep mode, mabey I'm wrong, and I misunderstand sleep mode, but it seems to me that both the air and pad are capable of doing similar things in this situation.

Do you mean parasitic charging or parasitic drain? I've looked them up and are now more confused than ever. I think I'll check in with a "Genius"

Thanks all

An Ipad isnt sleeping Titanic applications , for example like Photoshop, Final Cut Pro etc. (when put in sleep mode)

Nor is an Ipad sleeping a lot of serious hardware eeking out power in sleep mode.

Do you mean parasitic charging or parasitic drain?

both, its a cycle of drop-raise-drop-raise..........

Yes, your warranty (even without) give you a free exmination and support from Apple , make an appt for drop off and full diagnostics of your Air. 😊
