Connecting Mac pro with HDMI to my SONY isn’t working. I have MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2010 running OS X 10.9.2, Gigaware Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, 1080p HD HDMI cable to HDMI port in SONY Bravia TV. I get “No signal.” Any idea?

Hmmm. Nothing in the Graphics & Displays except the MBP's Color LCD.
The Mac sets the resolution for attached displays by sending a query at Startup to the attached display. The display MUST respond with its name and its capabilities, or the Mac will not send any signal.
Many modern TV sets have multiple inputs. If the display is set for another port, it cannot answer when the query comes, and it will stay dark.
So make sure the display is set to the correct port.
Sleep and wake your Mac.

Sleep & wake-up didn't change anything. I sure the TV is set to the correct port. It has four HDMI inputs and it senses the cable to offer the appropriate choice on the input selector. I could re-boot. ... This didn't work either.
The Mini Display Port is completely inserted. The HDMI cable shows some metal when plugged into the HDMI/Mini converter. I tried the other end of the HDMI cable and it doesn't go completly in.
I also tried to reboot in safe mode, as suggested elsewhere, with no resolution.
I tried another HDMI cable. Normally the TV gets a signal from the cable box via HDMI. I used that cable (and port) by plugging it into the HDMI/mini-display converter instead of the cable box. It still doesn't work. "No signal." By the way, when I plug the converter into the computer the computer screen flashes. That suggests it is making contact but I see no sign that the computer shows a connection. "Displays" and "Sounds" show no choice for the TV.

It must show up in the System Report under Graphics & Displays, or the Mac cannot set a resolution for it.
I have 4 HDMI ports. I was using port 2 but I switched to port 1 which I normally connect to the cable box. Here's what I tried:
Port 1 -> cable box Port 2 -> MBP via converter cable
Cable works, MBP doesn't
Port 1 -> MPB via converter cable Port 2-> cable box
Cable works, MBP doesn't
Thus both ports and both HDMI cables work. It's either the converter cable or MBP
I'm wondering if there is another way. My SONY KDL-40EX640 has an ethernet connection which I now have connected to Airport Express. I wonder if I could stream the video through Airport Express to the TV. Any chance?
In any case, with the HDMI, the SONY manual says "Some devices may be able to output a 1080/24p or 1080/30p video signal, whereas some TVs can only accept a 1080/60p video signal. Changing the video output format of the device may resolve the issue." How can I tell what kind of signal the MBP is sending?
When correctly installed, the cable at the Mac end must be inserted so that essentially ALL of the metal end disappears inside the ThunderBolt/Mini DisplayPort jack.
Some SONY displays have a dedicated "Computer" port. Does yours? Is that the one you are using?
If its not showing up under About This Mac .... Graphics & Displays, it's not sending anything.
