AirDrop not working while on WiFi Network

Anyone know if this is a known problem on iOS 7.1? I can't recall for sure but I know that I've used AirDrop quite a few times in the past and I'm always connected to WiFi Networks.

Tested today by forgetting my wifi network on both devices and then AirDrop worked fine, when I joined the network it stopped.

Airdrop requires that both devices have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on and that both devices are awake. Were these conditions met when you tried to airdrop?

First thing I would try is a reset both devices. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.

After both devices have restarted make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both on. Then try to airdrop again.
