Q: How can I remove the black shadow on the top of my home screen background?

I recently updated to iOS 7.1 and when I change my background it will add a dark shadow to the top half of my background. I want some help on removing it please. Thanks!

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1

Can you capture a screenshot and post it in a reply?  I'm unable to re-create what you are experiencing on my iOS devices running 7.1.  Thanks.

I am also very annoyed by this new "feature". It makes my background look like a storm is coming.

Here's the wallpaper preview, which still shows the unmodified image:

And here is how it looks on the home screen. Same on the unlock screen.

Yeah don't put your personal info on here.

I can see what you are talking about now from Scarabaeus23's posting.

That seems to be an expected behavior for photos that have a light background just in the top half.

Try changing you wallpaper to a full light photo or something without a really light at the top.

I am posting a few examples that shows not only what you were referencing, but how iOS 7.1 tries to read the photo and select the best font color (white or black).

If you don't like this new feature, let Apple know at apple.com/feedback and maybe they'll change it.

Apple. PLEASE fix this issue. It's terribly annoying. I don't want my calm relaxing beach screen saver to look like the end of the world is coming. I don't care about not being able to see the font. If I did maybe the solution is to not be dumb and choose another picture rather then mutating a picture I obviously dont want adjusted. Give the users some credit. We aren't that dumb.....

Once again, you aren't addressing Apple on this forum. http://www.apple.com/feedback

Hello JoeRendon271, I experienced the same issue too but I finally found a solution!

You only get a black shadow if your wallpaper is cropped wrong. By downloading the paid App "Pimp Your Screen" (it's worth it) and by selecting "Home Screen creator" and loading there your wallpaper, the App will generate a cropped one which you will have to save to your camera roll. Do the same for your lock screen using the Lock Screen creator. By setting the new wallpapers obtained, you'll have no shadow!

In short, use this App to get no - shadow wallpapers. You also have the ability to add cool effects such as status bars but I don't think it's the case.

Please notice I am NOT affiliated with the developers of this App. If you find one that does the same but it's free, please either post it as an edit on this comment or reply. I personally grabbed this App while it was free and I've been satisfied. Works well on iPad 2 iOS 7.1.1 and iPod touch 5th Generation iOS 7.1.1 too!
