i cant open my ipad 2 after i upgrade to IOS 7.1 its just appear the itunes

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE

1. Turn off iPad

2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)

3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port

4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.

DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug

5. Release Home button.

ON COMPUTER

6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.

7. Select "Restore iPad"...

Note:

1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup

2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

I followed these steps but my friends iPad 2 is still failing. I also put it in DFU mode as I was told that would help as well. This iPad was working without issue until he tried installing 7.1. After using these instructions It gets through restoring and verifying software fine. Then when the white bar for restoring firmware gets to 90% it stops and I get the striped bar again and soon afterwards a fail with error code 1. I have seen a few forums say this is ahardware issue but it was fine before the update. Does this mean that people with iDevices that no longer have warranties should NEVER update their devces? This iPad was $600 just 2 year ago.

I tried to root it as well from DFU but the options I had always failed. Should I wait for a 7.1 root?
