Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Since I did the update to IOS 7.1 when I want to close down applications I try double clicking the home key so that I can swipe them closed, however it doesn't always work immediately. My IPhone 4S is about 2 years old so not sure if it is the phone or the update. Subsequently this is going to have a huge drain on my battery. Anyone else having this issue? Ideas how to fix?

After double tapping Home button, did you swipe the app snapshort UP to delete from multitask-list?
The problem is that the app snapshots are not even coming up for me to swipe the apps closed.

Did you try a
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
I actually took off my otterbox case and found there was some lint kind of built up near the home button so I removed that. This was somewhat of an intermittent problem so we will see if that and/or the reset fixed it. Thanks for your help. I will let you know if it continues to happen.
