Since you appear to be using an iPhone 5S I am guessing that the battery is still OK to recharge. I would try the following:

1. Shut down any apps running in the background. Double tap the Home button to open the multitasking window. Swipe up on the screen shots of the apps running in the background until they are all closed.

2. Restart your phone. Hold down both the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until the Apple logo appears and your phone restarts itself.

3. Power cycle the battery. Let it run down to the point where it won't start your phone back up anymore. Plug it into a wall outlet and let it charge over night. Let it charge awhile past when it reaches 100%.

I do this everytime I update the firmware on my phone and it seems to help. I don't know what causes it, but when Apple released new firmware it sometimes messes up the battery meter so that it looks like your phone is dying very fast, even though it isn't really. Doing the battery cycle routine once a month seems to help keep the meter calibrated so that you see the actual battery drain.

Also turn off as many location specific features as you can. Anything that uses the GPS will really take a hit on the battery.

And if you can set your email to manually fetch rather than push that will help too.

Until battery science moves past smartphone feature sets I don't think we will get to use them as the always connected, always on tools we really want them to be.
