HELP ME PLEASE - I'm operating a Mac Pro 10.6.8 with 24 GB RAM and 16 TB HD - FCP 7 despite plently of space the app insist I'm outa memory

Do you have any still images in your sequence? Make sure thay are in RGB color mode, not CMYK and that the bit depth for the images is 8 bits/channel.

And that no still image is over 4000 pixels on any side. FCP doesn't do anything over 4K.
Also, in addition to the RGB stipulation for color images, Greyscale images will also kick up a fuss.

AND... make sure you are not editing with h.264 footage.
