Connecting External Hard Drive

Hello There,

This is both a mac book pro and general external hard drive question, so hopefully this is the best section to post in.

I'm trying to connect my glyph external hard drive to my new mac book pro.

I have 2 gylphs. The one I am trying to connect is quite old and only has a firewire 400 output.

My computer does not have the matching firewire port

SO, I am connecting the hard drive into the firewire 400 port of another newer glyph (which has firewire and usb).

Then that newer glyph into my computer via USB.

The new glyph shows up on my computer but the other no trace of the other. Nor is it within this glyph.

Any ideas?

Am i doing something wrong? This seemed to be the most obvious solution.

Is there another way to get a device with firewire 400 into my lap top?

Thanks in advance!
