My ipod nano 5th gen keeps turning off and on

Have you tried doing a Reset (restart)?

If that does not help, a 5th gen iPod nano can play without headphones being plugged in (because it has a very small speaker). If you remove the headphones and play the iPod, does this problem still happen? If the problem goes away, try a different set of headphones to see if that makes a difference.
