Is Siri on? Settings>General>Siri>On.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know if it was related to Siri. It was part of the keyboard for typing text messages which allowed me to speak and click "Done" when finished. Is that the same function you are speaking of?

Yep. If Siri is off, the button disappears.
