Can't upload photos to a website ...all greyed out

I have MacBook Pro with Mavericks.

I am trying to upload a photo to a small local website for local traders (nothing big like Facebook or eBay). The photo in question is a .jpg and is located on my Desktop, having been taken by my iPhone and sent to the MacBook via streaming.

In order to upload I have to click a 'choose file' button on the website which opens a window in Finder. I click on Desktop and I can see my photo (and all other photos) greyed out.

I have put this thread in iPhoto thread although I am not using iPhoto in this case, although somehow I suspect that iPhoto maybe involved somewhere along the line, perhaps in the transfer process from my iPhone to the Mac.

Having searched this forum I can see that to access photos all I have to do is click File...Open...Media....Photos.....and there I have all my photos. However, this is not what I want to do. I want to upload to a specific site, and that site automatically takes me to Finder where my photos are greyed out.

How can I bypass this?

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? It is really driving me crazy. I found one work around if the computer is not storing full size images I would have to open Photos and download the full sized image before trying to upload to the website, but the computer I am on now is set to store all images locally full sized and I am still seeing grayed-out images I cannot attach when needed to upload to websites.... argh.

I posted the above message a month ago and unfortunately there have been no replies.

I am still having the same problem....all my photos are greyed out when I try to upload to a local trading site.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Open that photo with Preview and save it as a new jpeg file with a new file name. See if the uploaded will recognize that file.

Thanks for the reply Old Toad.

Unfortunately this hasnt worked. The photo is still greyed out, as are all the other photos on my computer.

Any more ideas?

Is there a file size requirement for the website or a format requirement?

Contact the support people for the web site and get guideance from them.

I can't see anything about a file size requirement, but I had a play around anyway with some of my small photos including little avatar size photos, but they are all greyed out regardless of size.

Most of my photos are .jpg, but there are also some .bmp and .png. They are all grey.

I've uploaded photos to this site in the past (from my old PC) without a problem so I dont think the file extension can be the issue.

I've written an email to the site administration describing my problem and I'll wait to see what they say.

If in the meantime anything else occurs to you I'd love to hear it.

Do the file extensions of the image file show in the Finder? If they don't maybe that's why the uploader doesn't recognize them. If they don't display go to the Finder/Advanced preference pane and check the checkbox to display the extensions.
