burning DVDs from a purchased online movie site..

I want to suscribe to an online movie provider as I now live overseas and movies are expensive here to see and rent...
Will my iDVD software permit me to burn movies that I purchase or do I need to include 'their' software to do it (extra $$)...?

Also, besides being Mac compatible, are there any other pertinent things I need to know from one service to another....
Any success stories out there to reference..??

Thanks

the videoclips, you can purchase in the iTMS, can NOT be burned to a videoDVD, due to copy right restrictments…

same with .wmv files including any DRM (digital rights management = copy protection) - there's no way, to make them useful on a Mac…. all the .wmv players/converters on Mac can NOT handle/convert such files…

a workaround could be Bootcamp/changing your Mac into an IntelPC… but I mostly doubt, that works, because DRM is located really down deep into the darker rims of the system of a computer…

maybe, the terms of use of your content-provider can tell you, or explicitly mention "works with Mac(Os)"… ??

no dvd-rental overseas? I pay 1€/d, and most dvds contain the original, english soundtrack.....

The various providers I researched say they are Mac X compatible and also offer software for an added cost that will allow you to burn DVDs from their purchased downloads to your computer....
Am I missing something there in their presentation that will not work with my Mac...? Don't want to spend the $$ to subscribe only to find out afterward that it won't work on my Mac...
Seeing movies this way is much more cost-effective here in Sweden than even the rental option....

then it should work - I'm no lawyer 😉 , but if some software allows to create files for a videoDVD - that is a common standard… sounds plausible…

online time dvdryour time/quality = cheaper then rental? if you say so...

do you have a link for us…?
would be interesting to read…

there's this little hurdle "region codes" - but a Mac allows 5x the switching of it; but your Mac is US, the DVDs are probably US - all the same RC 1.

And many, esp. cheap dvd-standalones allow some (forum's admin, close your eyes for a second) simple "hack", to make them region-code-free... mostly, you have to press the key of the remote in some special order, then you're offered a submenu on screen, to select RC or have no RC at all.....

different countries (continents…), different standards…

I would NEVER pass my CC numbers to a company, which does not offer its postal adress, etc ("disclaimer") on its website…… 😉

internic/whois tells us about them:

Domain Name: EXPRESSMOVIEDOWNLOADS.COM
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Registrant Contact: …
Administrative Contact: …
Technical Contact: …
Whois Privacy Protection Service, Inc.
Whois Agent (bpmwwqjnyg@whoisprivacyprotect.com)
+1.4252740xxx etc......

...... to much "undercover" and "privacy protection" - for me - to be serious…
the business model seems to be, you're not only a buyer of some downloads, but you are used as a peer2peer station, you share bandwidth as a member

clicking on the movie lists just shows up a "PAY NOW!" …- ok, in some more friendly way… but not ONE title is mentioned... are they afraid they get sued by mentioning a Hollywood product? or did I missed a link to "Matrix", "Harry&Sally", "Debbie does Dallas"? …-

sorry to say - for me, an absolutely NoGo…

using Grey Matter v.05: is Hollywood really interested, that "some" company sells downloads of their products "… in shiny DVD quality…"? for such a price? have you read in the main media about that service? does Steve Jobs know, iTunesMovieStore comes too late......? 😉
last: even without being a "paying member", iTMS and its M$ equivilent allows to browse the catalogues, even do some test-listening…

but, as said - that is German standards… we are suspicious people 😉
