Hi,

1) The Google Talk option needs to be Enabled in your Google settings.

2) The name (ID) you enter in Messages or iChat needs to be exactly as you see it when you are logged in to the Google Mail web page.

(there is a difference between @gmail.com and @googlemail.com IDs)

3) If you are using the Specific App password method you need to correct password.

4) In the server Settings (App Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Google Account > Server Settings) try setting port 443 if the 5223 one is not working.

Hi Ralph,

none of those solutions helped me 😢.

The fact is - ichat has been working good (for 2 years) until this week. it simply stopped working. I tried many things: created new ichat accounts, changed passwords in gmail and ichat - but nothing helped. When i fill in the fields in the accounts settings panel, while creating it, the newly-created account has the name identical to the name in my google account. that is why i realize that i have filled in the info correctly. But when i turn the status from "offline" to "online", the window is shown with a request to fill in the password. i enter the same password as i entered when created this ichat acoount, but nothing changes - i'm again asked to enter the password as ichat cant log in to my gmail account.

do you have any more ideas what should i do?

Hi,

In the Applications/Utilities folder open the Keychain Access item.

Have Login selected top left.

Have Certificates selected lower left

On the right hand pane find the Google certificate and double click it.

In the info panel that opens what does it say for the Trust drop down ?

First Quit iChat then remove the Certificate and the restart the app.

This should force it to get a new certificate.
