My Mac doesnt play Dvd's
Whenever I put a DVD in my computer it never plays, it only shows up on my home screen. It used to play the DVD's but now it will not let me watch them.

In System Preferences>CDS & DVDs, what is set to handle an inserted DVD?

It's set to ignore, I know that is the reason why it will not play. When I change it to open dvd player it automatically changes back to ignore.
Wonder if something as simple as a NVRAM reset, &/or a cleaning disc
could help the MacBook muddle its way through the difficulties of playing
a DVD; or if you'll have to treat it to more funner things. Like camping?

So many mundane things can't hurt, just be sure they aren't harmful
to the more delicate disposition of the MacBook's inner Zen spirit...
On cool winter nights, to light a candle or two, and utterence of calm
kind repetitive words to sooth the aging MacBook soul could help, too.
Maybe this Ignore DVD is a mid-life crisis, and it wants a trip to see a
Genius at an official Apple Store? These MBs can be testy, btw.
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.digihub.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
Hmmm
There's a possibility that this file is involved also...
/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxxxxxx.csstore
There may be mutiple numbered ones.
