The hard drive on laptop died and was replaced. I want to use my backup to restore but can't remember the password to the Time Machine.

You can do a deep reset using a ceremony that involves cycling the power and pressing and holding the deep reset button using a ballpoint pen or a paperclip.
Then it will have the default password and you will have to set up everything again from scratch.
You mean the password because you encrypted your backups or your wifi password? If encrypted backups, I think you are really really out of luck but hope others can help. It is my understanding that without that password, there is nothing you can do with your backups or even access them from another computer, that's the purpose of encrypting them.
If it's THAT password, you are out of luck. There is no backdoor.
I am in the same delemna. I don't know what else to do. I keep trying every idea I have had for passwords. So far no good.
What do I do if i can't remember the password to get into my airport time machine.
