I have a late 09' MacBook Pro 13" model and so far it's been a beast, now out of no where my track pad starts acting erratically. Any thoughts on what it could be?

I've cleaned the track pad. I've rebooted in safe mode to see if it still consisted, I also reset the SMC. Any thoughts on what else it might be? I did just update to OSX 10.6.8 and it seems to have slowed down my computers functioning ability, could that be a possible cause in why the track pad is erratic?

Try booting from your SL disk and running repair in Disk Utility. That's the first step. You may have some older software on your machine that doesn't like SL which is causing a slowdown too. Let's see if things improve with the Disk Utility approach first.
