My iPhone 4S will not charge/sync when plugged into my macbook.

My iPhone 4S (running iOS 7.1) will not charge/sync when plugged into my MacBook Pro (2011 running Maverick).

It charges when plugged into the wall, I have tried multiple USB cables, and my iPad still charges and syncs when plugged in so it does not seem to be an issue with the phone, cable, or macbook. I have also tried reinstalling Maverick, but that did nothing.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
