What are you trying to accomplish?
Russ
I've just finished a job and I my client whats my project files so that they can edit them selves but I made the video on version 10.1 and they have version 10.0.8 and they can't use my project files
Assuming they have a computer running on Mavericks they can download the latest FCP X 10.1.1 and use that.
They are not really up for that because they have a whole archiveing system based on the old version I would really like it if I could save my project files as something that they can open
Got it now.
If the project was originally created in 10.1, I can't think of any way this could work without the client updating to 10.1…unless they have Final Cut Pro 7. There possibly may be a path from 10.1 to FCP7 using Xto7 and then back to 10.9 via 7toX. But I'm not at all sure about this – whether the third party apps will be compatible with different versions – and I would definitely check with the developer before buying. (Perhaps someone else on these boards would know.)

could I open an fcpxml file in version 10.0.8 that I made in version 10.1
Good question, but I'm afraid not. To open the XML you would need a version that was the same as the one that created it.
Could they make do with importing the flattened video as a clip?
Russ
you mean importing the finished video as a clip
Yes.
Clearly, it's not ideal. (Some things, like titles, will be very difficult to modify if baked in.) But they could make a variety of alterations with any of the edit tools – swapping out content or adding content, for example – possibly some basic color grading and effects – and certainly reformatting. Maybe half a loaf, but better than nothing if they're staying with 10.0.8.
Russ
I'll offer it but I don't think that they will go for it but thanks for your help anyway
