Q: My iphone rapidly disconnects and connects to the laptop?

My iphone rapidly disconnects and connects to itunes. Its not the wire because i have tried numerous ones, and it is not my iphone either. I tried connecting it after i had held down the lock button and middle button but still no luck. i have also authorized the computer but it still does it.

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1

I followed the steps on the link you gave me and it turns out it was the mobile device usb driver. When i went on device manager it says 'Unknown USB device(device descriptor request failed' so i clicked on properties and went on hardware IDs. it says 'USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE'. im sure this isnt in the troubleshooting guide, any help?
