No Dolby Digital Apple TV 3 firmware 6.1 (6698.99.16)

That's a step in the right direction, even though there is no new information so far. I've heard "Netflix is working on it" for two months now. I made my first posts.

My latest email to Apple this morning resulted in this reply:

"If features are missing or different on other platforms

You might notice that some provider's features or content on the Apple TV differ between other devices such as iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and third-party systems. In most cases, this is normal for the service. For help with features or content, contact the content provider."

Yeah, I had to type "Apple TV 5.1" into 9to5mac's search bar to find the story.

To me that says that they don't care either. This story should be on the front page, not under some searching of files.

No need to search, just go to 9to5mac.com and school down 2-3 "pages". It might appear "hidden" because there is currently no image attached to the article - just the headline, but it is right there - on the "front page".

I don't know why I didn't think about this before or anyone else mentioned it.

But I went to Netflix's report a problem area. And with every movie that I know is in 5.1. I clicked on the report a problem with "Sound" and pasted this into every movie...

"Apple TV does not present this movie or any other movie that should be in 5.1 channel surround sound."

Very simple, but put it in every movie it's hard for them to ignore.

Good idea. I just did the same.

I retract my positive attitute towards 9to5mac - I'm finding it difficult to log in and reply. Twice, I typed a long reply and received an error message stating that I had to log in first - even though I was logged in. It's hardly worth the effort to re-type everything and risk it being erased...again.

When I make long post on any website. I always copy and paste the post into a Word document, save it, then attempt to post on the website.

There's been a couple times where I needed to go to that Word document.

I check to see if dd 5.1 is back everyday and today it is working for me. Watching Gladiator now. This has happened in the past so only time will tell if resolved for good.

I can confirm Dolby Digital ist back again. Let's hope it's more than a little experiment this time. But why they would turn it off again is beyond me. It DOES work whenever they want it to work, so it's only up to them.

I can also confirm DD 5.1 is working in the Midwest as of 3:22 CDT. It would be nice if official confirmation was forthcoming from either company. Being kept in the dark is not the best customer service.

DD 5.1 working now in SoCal as of 1:30pm PDT. No DD icons yet, but 5.1 working on House of Cards.

When testing netflix make sure the movie/show you're streaming is offered in DD too. There is an option to select subtitles/audio and there it will tell you if it's superHD and also what audio source it is. I was shocked to see the avengers was a stereo only title.
