Apr 22, 2014 12:17 PM in response to peter aagaardby JMichaelTX,This is GREAT news for all of us. As I told you guys, we just needed a little patience.
Now, may I suggest that everyone go to the Apple Feedback page and post your thanks and glowing praise for how quickly Apple fixed this issue.
I know, it may not seem quick, but let me assure you, by Apple standards, this was incredibly fast. So let's give them some encouragement!
Of course, you want to do the same for Netflix.

You call a month "quick"? How would you like it if you bought a new car and there was a recall to update the software for the transmission, but the same update inadvertently "broke" all of your radio's speakers except for one in the rear, right door. How would you feel about this?
There's no need to praise Apple or Netflix or anyone else for fixing something that should never have broken in the first place. They'll automatically know if they are receiving indirect praise when the sales stop decreasing and subscriptions stop canceling.

Apr 22, 2014 1:11 PM in response to peter aagaardby andrew165,Whilst I agree this is great news......DD is back.
Some serious questions need to be raised with the team responsible for testing and signing off on the release that killed DD. Surley this would be one of the main tests included in a simple set of regression tests before release.
Simply..........
1. Can videos still be played? Pass/Fail
2. Can 1080p still be achieved? Pass/Fail
3. Will DD listed videos still play in DD? Pass/Fail
I honestly can't believe how this would have been missed if this had gone through a proper QC process.

zroger, I feel and understand your frustration, but your analogy is way out of line, and your expectations for software updates are unrealistic.
In the big scheme of things, not having DD for a month is a very minor inconvenience. I watched a number of movies during that time, and enjoyed them all. Yes, DD would have been better, but NOT having DD did NOT destroy my movie experience.
Software updates are very complex today, and yes, I also agree that the developers should spend more time testing before making a release. Of course, that just delays the release, which is what you are complaining about.
Again, if you have any experience with Apple, you will know that they are slower than most to make/release changes/fixes. They have higher standards than most, and review every app submitted to them.
If you don't want to thank Apple, then so be it. My only thought is that the Apple Developers are more likely to respond positively to a "thanks" for their quick fix that they are to either no feedback or negative feedback. I think most of us have already expressed our negative feedback when we reported the issue.
IAC, have a great day, and enjoy the return of DD to your Netflix movies.

andrew, I completely agree. This seems to be a problem across the board, for all sofware developers.
I suspect that the availability of a quick update via the Internet has resulted in at least some of the developers in becoming more lax, thinking that "well, if there's any bugs we missed, we'll just fix them in the next update".
So I have developed a policy (that I didn't follow for the 6.1 Apple TV update) of waiting for at least several weeks after the official release before I apply the release to my systems. I wait until I don't see any material bugs being reported that affect my needs.
I let my guard down on Apple TV 6.1 update because all previous updates had went without any issues, and it seemed like a simpler system to me. Wrong! And I got bit! But never again.

Apr 22, 2014 1:36 PM in response to JMichaelTXby sebastian255,Well, actually, releasing a x.x.1 update after four to six weeks ist pretty normal for Apple. Typically and officially it only "includes general performance and stability updates". Just like this one.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4448
I think Netflix simply fixed a (probably stupid) little bug in their app and handed it to Apple who included it in a regular update that would have been released this week anyway. After all, the 7.1.1 update for iPhone and iPad also came out today, and it has nothing to do with Netflix.
Still, I'm very happy the problem has been resolved. So yeah, why not thank both Apple and Netflix. At least they listened.

Apr 22, 2014 2:40 PM in response to FJ1200by simlid,Are we all on the same page that we should no longer expect to see SUPER HD listed at this point (change in the way Netflix is presenting the description of HD ?) or should that be back ?
Thanks
-
Apr 22, 2014 2:45 PM in response to simlidby dmorris145,As pointed out several times the Super HD indicator was not related to the prior update and this dd issue.
So yes, do not expect to see it back. It was a Netflix change not Apple.

Apr 22, 2014 5:56 PM in response to peter aagaardby JMichaelTX,Hey guys, since we are all Apple TV fans, thought you might like to know this:
Are you psycho for "Bates Motel" but lost without cable? Cheer up, lil' Internet TV viewer. A&E Networks announced on Monday that it has launched A&E, History and Lifetime content on Apple TV.
That means more than just "Bates Motel"; it includes popular shows like "Storage Wars," "Project Runway," "Devious Maids" and "Pawn Stars."
