Q: No Dolby Digital Apple TV 3 firmware 6.1 (6698.99.16)

I was running the above firmware on my main appletv, and noticed that Dolby Digital (DD) over spdif had stopped working, both in netflix and when streaming from itunes on my computer. I then took my daughters appletv and connected it to my receiver through spdif, and now DD worked, my daughters appletv was running firmware 5.3 (6105). I tried software resetting my main unit a couple of times, but that did not help. Lastly I updated my daughters appletv to firmwar 6.1, and then DD stopped working on that unit too...

Since then I have cuorisly found that DD is now working on my main unit, when I stream movies from itunes, but still not when watching a netflix-movie...

Anyone out there who have had the same problem?

Guys I hate to revive this but is Dolby still killed in 6.1.1?

I have an m4v witb AAC/AC3 streams in iTunes.

When home sharing to ATV3, the movie will load but with NO sound.

If I use the iphone remove app and bring up the sub menu and toggle the streams, I can get Dolby to work.

It defaults to the Dolby stream. But only when toggling to AAC then back to AC3 (Dolby) will it work..

Does this sound accurate?

Hi, im new here. I got 5.1 sound after last update, but now it is gone again. I restored and nothing. Am I the only one having this nightmare back? Thanks in advance.

Same here. Now I have to stream netflix from my ipad to get dd again. Hope this is fixed soon!

F...... h..., I watched a movie 2 hours ago, and I will swear I watched it in DD, and now DD is gone again....

Confirmed. Lost 5.1 again. Worked for a couple of days with the new firmware.
I'm getting really p*ssed with that issue.....

i got mine working with my own encoded videos.. had to re-encode...

My M4Vs have 2 5.1 audio streams AAC/AC3..

They play in 1080p DD in iTunes AND ATV3...

***** I have to re-encode but needed to move to ATV3 to ge the 1080p

I dont have issues in Netflix

I guess we should all wait a little before rolling back. There was no ATV update today, so I think we can safely assume it's a server-side issue. Which means that it can easily be fixed by Netflix.

I just had a fun support chat with netflix.
Basically the support rep. adviced me not to use external speakers to make use of dolby digital. In short i was told dolby digital is only supported without using an AVR.
Now I'm confused...
