Mar 21, 2014 5:53 PM in response to foldpagesby muka3d,Confirmed; direct optical connection to receiver, no 5.1 DD on Netflix. iTunes Festival streams in glorious 5.1 DD immediately. ATV configuration has "Dolby Digital" set to "On". Tried toggling Netflix playback setting (via website) from "Auto" to "High", no change.

Mar 21, 2014 8:29 PM in response to peter aagaardby Hankfromnh,Same issue here. Netflix no longer in Dolby. Works fine with iTunes Festival and items from iTunes Store. Tested Netflix on my PS3, which is connected to the same receiver, and was able to watch in Dolby Surround. Hopefully, a fix will be issued soon.

Mar 22, 2014 12:07 PM in response to peter aagaardby iphone_traveller,I've spoken to Netflix who appears to be aware of the issue, but I would encourage others to let Netflix know so that this does not get left on the back burner.
Apparently the issue is only prevalent for those who have connected our Apple TV boxes to a AV receiver. In my case, I am able to get around the problem by watching material on my iPad and then airplaying the material across to my Apple TV, however you are more likely to get bandwidth related issues via this method, so quality can decrease.
It's worth pointing out I don't appear to have issues getting DD material to play via either Apple iCloud stored material, nor using Plex Connect to redirect content via the Apple TV. The issue only seems to relate to Netflix.

Mar 22, 2014 6:07 PM in response to peter aagaardby zroger73,Just noticed my A/V receiver is no longer receiving Dolby Digital on my ATV3 as well. It always worked fine. Nothing has changed except firmware updates. All I get is PCM no matter the source.

Mar 22, 2014 10:59 PM in response to peter aagaardby lihiniya,I too have the same issue. No DD audio with netflix, Apple TV firmware 6.1. iTunes festival app and purchased movies have 5.1 DD sound. Only Netflix is having problems.
Made bug reports to both Apple and Neflix. From the conversation I had with Netflix support, it seems they are aware of this.

Mar 23, 2014 9:16 AM in response to peter aagaardby MacUKuser,This is a known issue, just spoke to Netflix. Fix coming soon they say. I have also lost "super HD" which is also an issue with the new Apple TV software it seems.

Mar 23, 2014 9:36 AM in response to MacUKuserby zroger73,Netflix told me this morning that "their techs are aware of this and working on a solution". However, Netflix isn't the only place where DD 5.1 has disappeared, so I'm not confident a Netflix fix can resolve this issue. Movies I stream from iTunes to the ATVs stopped doing DD 5.1 as did Trailers. Perhaps they are working with Apple on this apparent Apple firmware-related issue.
I wouldn't know if I've lost Super HD or not - I intentionally force my ATVs to use 720p on my 1080p TVs because 1) I can't see a different in picture quality and 2) My cable Internet provider has a 250 GB monthly cap that gets eaten up in no time when streaming SHD movies.

Mar 23, 2014 10:17 AM in response to peter aagaardby vdogg78,PS- confirmed that DD works when AirPlay streaming from netflix app on iPhone or iPad with iOS 7+ only. Does not work with iOS 6 devices, presumably due to difference in AirPlay technology. (Also ATV 6.1 is based on iOS 7.1 code base)
