Mar 24, 2014 5:26 PM in response to mvinetteby cbrucecampbell,I like to pile on as well. Two separate setups. Both failing to sense DD on Netflix. Not sure when it started, but it is consistent.

Mar 24, 2014 6:26 PM in response to peter aagaardby claudiocesar,Is there any idea on when this will be solved ? I just signed to Netflix and I do like it a lot but no surround when using my Apple TV is a detriment to otherwise great service...

Mar 25, 2014 7:25 AM in response to claudiocesarby dmorris145,I also noticed the loss of the SuperHD indicator after this update. Netflix states it will still be the highest quality but it was nice to see it.

Mar 25, 2014 9:52 AM in response to dmorris145by er1c15,Blah... Just my two cents, but all Super HD meant was the best quality possible ACCORDING to connection (at least that's what I got from reading about it). If so, then I just think it's a way to make something sound better than it really is, kind of like 'Mastered For iTunes'... But that's a discussion for another thread.
(In a world where the LP is dead, CD is king... Mastered For iTunes is like a peasant or something haha)
ANYWAY....
Still no DD for today. And yes, my Super HD logo is also gone.

Mar 25, 2014 10:11 AM in response to er1c15by MacUKuser,Super HD is a higher quality stream that netflix introduced. Originally it was limited to ISP's who netflix had made a deal with but was later made available to all. It is only available to some devices and the Apple TV 3 is one of them. I had it and now at least the logo is gone. The actual video might still be the highest possible but this all seems related to the Apple TV update where netflix in my case lost both Dolby digital audio and super hd
-
Mar 25, 2014 12:34 PM in response to MacUKuserby Vandergraff,I am not bothered about the Super HD Logo as the video stream is still Super HD (confirmed on Example Short and Router Real-time bandwidth).
However like everyone else I no longer get DD 5.1 on Netflix on a 3rd Generation Apple TV.
Hope they fix it soon.....

Mar 25, 2014 5:40 PM in response to er1c15by vdogg78,SuperHD = 1080p
HD = 720p
It is not clear if Netflix has removed the distinction recently or if the actual quality is degraded after the 6.1 update, along with the missing DD output, as Vandergraff suggests. The SuperHD logo was (obviously) confusing to many people anyway

Mar 25, 2014 7:29 PM in response to peter aagaardby acurtis,I'm having the same issue here. No longer receiving Dolby Digital via HDMI from my ATV 3 while watching on Netflix. Double-checked that Dolby Digital worked while watching iTunes Festival, and it does, so obviously a Netflix and ATV issue.

Mar 25, 2014 10:10 PM in response to vdogg78by JMichaelTX,A bit OT, but I don't think Netflix HD vs Super HD has to do with resolution (720p vs 1080p). I believe it has to do with the streaming rate. But then, I'm no video expert.
Previously, Netflix highest quality video, available to those with ISPs not in the Open Connect program, was encoded at 3850Kbps. With SuperHD, video is encoded at 4300Kbps and 5800Kbps and adding the audio bitrate brings SuperHD encodes to about 4.5Mbps and 6.0Mbps. Netflix is essentially doubling the quality of their video, for a limited amount of their content.

Actually Netflix HD means either 720P (up to 3000 kpbs) or 1080P (up to 3850 kpbs). As JMichael11 posts Super HD is 1080P with either 4300 or 5800 kbps streams. Originally Super HD was limited to Open Connect ISPs - but last September was made available anyone who had a device capable of getting Super HD and the neccessary bandwith (that last part is a rabbit hole which we shouldn't spend time on in this thread....)
Even though the Super HD logo has disappeared I am still getting 5800 kpbs so the video quality is not degraded (even though we have lost - at least on temporary basis - DD 5.1),
Its possible Netflix has decided just to label all 1080P encodes as HD.

Mar 26, 2014 5:52 PM in response to Vandergraffby NZSolly,I have been on phone to Apple care today regarding work ATV3 and update to 6.1, which now doesnt display on Panny TV, yet 5.3 does...
Ask why Apple doesnt allow downgrade to previous version as this is Golden Rule #1 in any IT environment....however just got the scripted reply...shame really, there is no way Apple can test all situations, and 1 way ticket to upgrading is unfathomable.

Mar 27, 2014 10:48 AM in response to peter aagaardby -BluE-Dragon,Same problem as all you guys. Had a replacement unit 5 days ago not knowing it was the update causing the issue, "automatic update" just completed and now no Dolby Surround!
Been on the phone to Bruce as the technical department of Apple UK and he had never heard of this problem?
Yet I see I am one of many people with exactly the same issue. Come on Apple, this isn't good enough!!
I am going to get a third unit tomorrow and "switch OFF auto updates"

Mar 27, 2014 11:28 AM in response to peter aagaardby bubblepuppy369,I had a similar problem when I first purchased ATV a couple years ago. I fixed it by going into ATV settings and switching the Dolby Digital from "auto" to "on." Alas, this time that doesn't work. There's no question the problem was coincidental with the 6.1 "upgrade." What makes it worse is that the center channel audio, with the Dolby Pro Logic (which remains available) often exhibits distortion as if being overdriven, even at low to moderate volume levels. (That problem is not there with 5.1 sources such as cable programming and DVD.) I too will ensure that my "auto update" option is turned off and be more hesitant the next time an upgrade is offered. In the meantime, I'm very disappointed!

Mar 27, 2014 4:23 PM in response to peter aagaardby er1c15,I know we're all still waiting for a solution... God knows I miss my DD! I just wanted to add a bit of comic relief...
Super HD = 1080p
HD = 720p
Can't believe this is what some people think. Kinda funny IMO.
Anyway, what is this? Day 13 of the No DD crisis?

Mar 27, 2014 7:26 PM in response to peter aagaardby mike3132,Count me in. Exact same symptoms including Netflix working via airplay from iphone. Netflix live chat tech was not aware of the issue.
