iTunes Update 11.1.5.5 Problem - Devices Not Listed

I have updated to iTunes 11.1.5.5. Neither of my devices (iPad or iPhone) are listed in the sidebar as they always were prior to the update.
In addition to that iTunes just crashed.

HP Pavilion, Windows 7, 64-bit

You don't need to reboot Windows.

Leave your iPhone connected to your PC then:

Quit iTunes
In task manager click "show processes from all users", sort by description and kill everything "Apple". Also kill the process with the image name AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe
Click Start > Run > in the Open text box copy & paste the following - with the quotes - "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe" and press OK.
Open iTunes

It was SO easy and IT WORKED!!!!!!!

I been trying to sync my ipod over wifi and its not working. like it'll start to start and then it just cancels an the sync button starts gray
