Highlighted word count that includes footnotes?

The majority of documents I write, I use footnotes, and I need to constantly know my word count including footnotes. With pages I can see my whole document word count (including footnotes) however, if I select a portion of text I get only the word count of the text and not the correlating footnotes, making it hard to see how much of my word count limit each section is using.

Does anyone know if/how I can highlight some text and get the word count for not only the text but also the footnotes that relate to that section of text?

I know it is easy to do on Microsoft Word...!
