iTunes freezes when syncing with 80GB iPod video 5th gen

Whenever I connect my 80GB iPod video 5th gen (circa 2006, model A1136), iTunes freezes shortly after beginning the syncing process. I have never synced this iPod with my computer before. I went into the Console and saw the following messages:

Any thoughts/ways to resolve this? I'd love to have this iPod up and kicking again.

Make sure the MacBook is connected to its power adapter, so that it's not running on battery power.

I would put the iPod into Disk Mode

If it goes into Disk Mode, run iTunes on your Mac and connect the iPod to a direct USB port. iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore. The Restore will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. Hopefully, iTunes will not freeze during this process.

You should rule out two parts of the connection between iPod and Mac. (1) The USB port. (2) The USB docking cable. The third part is the iPod itself.

For (1), shut down (power off) the MacBook and disconnect all USB devices. As I mentioned before, it should be connected to its power adapter. Start it up and also do this to Reset (restart) the iPod

Run iTunes and connect the iPod by itself to a direct USB port on the computer. If it has the same problem, disconnect the iPod and connect something else to the same USB port to confirm it is working and supplying sufficient power (preferably something similar, like another Apple device, a USB flash drive, or a port-powered external drive).

For (2), you'll need to try a different USB docking cable with your iPod, or try the cable you have with another working Apple device. Make sure the cable is not faulty.

If it's not (1) or (2) causing the problem, it is likely to be a problem on the iPod. Additional troubleshooting can focus on the iPod.
