Mac restarts while playing a game

Hello everyone,

I have had my iMac for a little over a year now. I used to have no problems at all. Then, I believe since Mavericks, my system started to crash every now and then, mostly while playing the videogame League of Legends. One day when this happened again, a hardware issue appeared and my Logic board/motherboard was replaced. Now, I was playing League of Legends again and my Mac crashed and rebooted. I know there are many problems with the Mac client for this game, but I'm still concerned.

The staff at the service point reassured me I could not have caused the hardware issue myself, but I have to ask... Can I break my hardware by playing a videogame?

The graphics processor is faulty and will have to be replaced.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.

Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

It would appear that the game is compatible with Mavericks:

Make sure you are using the same version stated to be compatible.

The hardware may already be marginal. RAM if not installed by Apple has to be known to be compatible with Late 2012 iMac, and not just say a timing spec or pin number, not be ValueRAM, and have a lifetime warranty. http://www.crucial.com/ and http://www.macsales.com/ can ensure you get the right RAM.

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select the most recent panic report (with a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic") under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang report.
