You will need to delete/move space hogging files off your hard drive. You should maintain an absolute minimum of 10 - 15 GB of free space in order for the OS to function properly. So, move your movies, pics, etc. to an external drive and then delete them off your hard drive (don't forget to empty the trash).

Mar 20, 2014 8:38 AM in response to carlojimby cpchase,One place to check is the hidden Library folder under your user account. From the Finder Menu click Go > Go To Folder > Enter: ~/Library/
IF YOU ARE UNSURE DO NOT DELETE SOMETHING
You may be able to find refrences to old applications that you have uninstalled. There is another folder inside that one called Application Support (~/Library/Application Support/). Same idea goes here, old software folders can be safely blown away. Don't forget to empty the Trash!
Bonus Points?
You can use the same technique on the /Library folder aswell!
Happy Deleting!
