Turning on audio to mini display port?

I'm trying to do gaming videos using an Elgato game capture HD hooked to my late 2009 iMac through a mini display port to HDMI link. When I tested this though, there was no audio. All my research says that audio should work on this model. Is there a way to activate it? What am I missing? or was I just lied to?

Late 2009 iMac 21.5-inch

3.06 Ghz intel core 2 duo

12 GB 1067 Mhz ddr3

Nividia Geforce 9400 256 MB

Mountain lion (OS X 10.8.5)

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 12 GB Ram

On a late 2009 machine you probably should just use a seperate audio cable, a video cable or port (your mini display port) will not carry audio.

But the information says it does. its the reason I bought these cables, was this another lie, cause apple is really starting to lose a customer! It stated that the ones on the list could support 8 channel audio, and iMac late 2009 and later was on that list.

I suspect you may have misunderstood a description of the product or it's specifications. Obviously Apple isn't going to intentionally lie about about an adapter, cable or specification, that would present a HUGE liability for them so there is no motivation. In 99.9% of these situations, its simply something the customer did not understand.

Yes you are correct, so I'm assuming you bought all of your cables directly from Apple. If they are not working then there is probably a simple answer as to why. Because I don't have a late 2009 iMac I can't assist any further. I'm sure you will get it sorted out.

Yeah they were all from the apple store. Alright thanks, sent a message to elgato while asking here, hopefully they have something.
