mavericks 10.9.2 dual monitor issues

I can see both monitors with no problem. My problem is that I want to open a program consistently on one monitor and not have to always slide it to the right place (on the left monitor or the right). But, the biggest thing is that when a dialog box opens it goes to a different monitor than the one that the original program is on. For example, Adobe Photoshop 6 or Cloud. You are working with an open image and click to find out how big the image is. The window that pops open to tell you goes on the other screen and you cannot find it until you realize this (and it is not consistent either). This happens for all kinds of programs, like Microsoft Word for example. Any suggestions? Right now, I have switched back to one monitor.
