Q: Iphone hotspot won't work on laptop or computer but will on other mobile devices?

So this is really strange..

I have recently updated my Iphone 4s 64GB to iOS 7.1 which is the only change to my phone/laptop.

So today I wanted to use hotspot to go onto the internet on my Toshiba Laptop. I turned my Hotspot on and laptop connected to it normal! But once i try to go on the internet, it just says it's unable to connect. Laptop says that my phone's connected and that there's internet access but everytime I go on Chrome (mainly) or even Internet Explorer, it says unable to connect! Also, when I connect to my laptop and go on safari on my phone, it says I'm unable to connect to the internet also, but only when connected to my laptop!

I have made sure that it's not my laptop playing up as I tried connecting it to my home wifi and another fellow peers Iphone hotspot and it connects and works perfectly! I have also got my father to connect to my Hotspot using his HTC One and it works fine too! It's only when connecting it to my laptop (Via cable or wireless! I've also tried connecting my PC (I have a wifi dongle) to my hotspot but still can't get on the internet although it says Internet access!

I have also connecting to my colleges wifi using my laptop with no trouble.. It's just my PC/ Laptop and iPhone hate eachother!

I'm currently on the 3 Mobile tarrif with All-You-Can-Eat Data, and never had this trouble before! Last time I connecting my Phone to my laptop with about 6 months ago though..

Anyone else had weird trouble? Is there a fix or diagnosis?

Thanks.. Really stuck here!!

my computer connected but said no internet. In network settings I clicked diagnose connection and found there was a problem with the DHCP. I fixed it by following these instructions : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Axwrc6raHno

My HP laptop couldn't connect. I changed the name of my iPhone 6 from the default name "iPhone" to "MyName iPhone 6" and it works now. Must be something with certain iPhone names. Try a few and see if it helps.

This got me out of trouble with an engineer trying to run teamviewer via personal hotspot to diagnose some equipment!

WOW- i had just started skimming for an answer to the same problem.  iphone to toshiba laptop- limited connection,  iphone to asus laptop just fine.  was wearily wondering how long it was going to take me to figure this out.  i took the "s" out of my iphone's name, had to reboot- but all is well now.  again WOW- i dread to think how long i COULD have been looking for this answer.  Thank You!!

I'm not sure if my situation is the same but here is my issue: Since I acquired both win 10 and an iphone 6s plus within the last few months, I had not had a need to use my hotspot so I'm not sure these acquisitions are relevant. This past weekend I needed to use the hotspot with my PC and it said can't connect to this network. My Ipad said the same but it did allow me to enter the password and then the Ipad was fine. The PC just says can't connect. So, I then hooked up the USB from iphone to PC and no problem.  So, the bottom line is that I'm fine except I can't connect wirelessly from phone to PC. I've tried every solution offered up on the forums but nothing has worked.

I have had the problem all morning, changing the name, connecting via USB, resetting the wifi, but only got connected intermittently.  I have a (two day old) Dell Inspiron 3000.  I went to device manager and updated the drivers for the wireless adapter directly from Dell.  And now all my problems have disappeared.  It seems that there have been issues that have now been sorted out with the updated drivers.

(Device manager is accessed by right clicking on the Start icon bottom left).
