How to bring 16:9 to the disk?

Can anyone help, please?

I imported a .mov 1024x576 to FinalCut Express (4.01) and it looks good. How to export it with markers and 16:9?

At this moment, the exported movie is 720x576 and is not good, the peoples look much to broad.

It appears that one of two things is going on:

  1. Your FCE Sequence may be a DV-PAL sequence. (DV-PAL is 4:3 not 16:9). If this is the case you have actually put a 16:9 clip into a 4:3 sequence which would explain why you are getting the results you see. This is a common occurrance if you did not change your FCE Easy Setup before starting your project. (I suspect this is the case.) -OR-
  2. You may be exporting to QuickTime Conversion instead of QuickTime Movie.

Check your FCE Sequence Settings. Control-click the Sequence in the FCE Browser and select Item Properties; tell us what it says for frame size, vid rate and compressor.

What is the exact source of your original video clip(s). Based on your description of 1024x576 it sounds like anamorphic DV PAL. What camcorder did you use, and what settings did you use when you shot the video?

It is possible to correct the situation but it will help enormously to know the actual source of the video clips and the FCE Sequence Settings you have. It is possible to change the FCE Sequence Settings but not before knowing more about your source video.

Hi Karl,

The second image you provided shows the properties of one of your clips, not your Sequence. We need to know your Sequence settings (the sequence that the clip is in).

In the FCE Browser, control-click the name of your Sequence and select Item Properties; tell us what it says for frame size, vid rate and compressor. The Sequence properties window will say "Sequence" (perhaps die Sequenz in Deutsche?) as below:

Changing the FCE Easy Setup ("Einfache Konfiguration") does not change the properties of any existing sequence - it only applies to new sequences created after you changed the Easy Setup.

Let's find out what your existing Sequence properties are first.
