How to set custom DNS for ios7 over 3G?
I would like to use Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 while I am on 3G. It is easy to set custome DNS over Wifi, but it looks very tricky to set DNS on carrier network. How to do it in a simple way?

You can't by any means I know of.
The one way to do it to change carrier profile, however, need to find an easy solution for millions whose internet censored.
If you are not using an Apple approved carrier you can input your own APN settings but I don't believe that will allow you to change the DNS used as that is determined by the carrier.
Yes you are correct, it does not let me to override DNS settings of carrier. I will accept it as a challenge 🙂
Good luck with that, while you are corrected to cell data that is a radio signal you do not access a DNS until you go through the cell providers switch and into their DNS. You would also be changing it for everyone else who is using that cell provider.
That is going to take quite a bit of hacking.
Imagine you have an ISP blocking some specific internet site, you can set Google DNS to your computer and Voila! It is not hacking. You are just telling your computer to use a specific domain name resolution server instead of the one comes with ISP.
Why are you thinking of going throught the cell provider's switches and change default DNS? Ofcourse it will effect everyone else who are using the base station.
DNS is not mendatory, you can just memorize websites' IP addresses and access servers without any DNS service. DNS servers are just making it easy to remember server addresses, and you can use more than one at the same time.
Most people faced with restrictive access use one of the many open VPN servers.
Yes, I'm quite familiar with doing so on a computer via an ISP. And access if provided to you to do so. But cell data works differently, you are going through cell repeaters and you then use the cell providers backbone/DNS, etc. You have no direct access to it via cell data.
Yes Lawrence, it is a solution. However, just changing the DNS is more elegant solution to my problem. Unfortunately, in Android you can do it easily.
Instead of google, use OpenDNS...
So, how do you suggest me to do this? This is the question all about 🙂
For your cell network, you don't.
But use it (instead of google) elsewhere.
Does using VPN with a configurable DNS work?
With a VPN, it should use the DNS the system you are connecting to uses.
