You can also try the following steps:

Symptoms

When you try to remove Apple software from the Add/Remove control panel or the Uninstall a program list in Windows, the following alert may appear: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

Resolution

This can occur if the cached installers for the Apple software were removed from Windows. You can use the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall utility to remove the affected software:

  1. Make sure you install the latest Microsoft Windows updates. To get the latest updates, go to the Microsoft Windows Update page.
  2. Download the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall utility.
    Note:
This tool doesn't work with Windows 8.
  3. If you're asked to Run or Save, click Save.
  4. Double-click to open the utility. Its name will start with MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.
  5. Click Yes if Windows asks you to allow the program to make changes to this computer.
  6. Read the License Agreement and click Accept. The utility will install and run.
  7. Select "Detect problems and apply the fixes for me (Recommended)" on the first screen of the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter.
  8. Select Uninstalling when asked if you're having problems installing or uninstalling a program.
  9. Select the Apple software you want to remove.
  10. User uploaded file
  11. Click Next.
  12. When asked if you want to Uninstall and cleanup, select "Yes, try uninstall." The utility will try to uninstall the Apple software. This may take five minutes or more, depending on the size of the software package the utility is trying to remove and the speed of your computer. If the utility is successful, the "Troubleshooting is complete" screen appears.
  13. User uploaded file
  14. If the uninstall process takes more than 30 minutes, try these steps to close the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall utility:
    1. Open Task Manager by pressing Control-Alt-Delete and selecting Start Task Manager. For Windows XP, Task Manager will open after you press Control-Alt-Delete.
    2. Click the Applications tab.
    3. Select Microsoft Fix it from the list and click End Task.
    4. Close Task Manager.
    5. Check the Add/Remove control panel (for Windows XP) or the "Uninstall a program" list (for later versions of Windows). If the Apple software isn't listed, it was successfully removed from your system; however, you may need to remove its supporting files and folders:
      • Navigate to the \Program Files\ folder. Remove any folder with the same name as the Apple software you removed. If the folder isn't listed, you can assume it's been removed. For example, if you uninstalled iTunes, find and remove the iTunes folder.
      • If you removed Apple Application Support, remove the \Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
      • If you removed Apple Mobile Device Support, remove the \Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Mobile Device Support folder.
      • After you remove all Apple software, remove the \Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ folder.
      • If you have a 64-bit OS, you will need to remove additional folders:
        • Navigate to the \Program Files (x86) and remove any folder with the same name as the Apple software you removed.
        • If you removed Apple Application Support, remove the \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
        • If you removed Apple Mobile Device Support, remove the \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support folder.
        • After you remove all the apple software, remove the \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\ folder.
  15. Close the utility.
  16. Repeat steps 5-12 for each piece of Apple software you can't remove normally.
