Why can't I clear my browsing history in safari

The same thing happened to me with my iPad. It turned out to be a Restriction Setting for Safari. Go to Settings\General\Restrictions\ALLOWED CONTENT: Websites. Make sure 'All Websites' are allowed. If not, Safari won't let you clear the History.

You're right, I don't see that either; sorry. Maybe you're already in Private Browsing Mode and that's why you cannot clear the history.

Go into Safari and click the Pages icon at the bottom right. You should see the Private button on the bottom left; tap it to turn off.

Check under Settings > General > Restrictions to see if these have been restricted.

GO to 'restrictions'. Then 'allowed content'. Then 'websites'. Select 'all websites'. Go back to browser and the clear button should be highlighted.

I had a similar problem. It just randomly stopped allowing me to do so. All i did was turn off restrictions cleared history and turned it back on. I dont know why but from now you can clear your history! hope this helps

So basically why it is turning grey is because you have websites blocked. You need to go into settings go to general then restrictions scroll down to websites and hit click the option ALL websites then go to Safari and scroll down and click clear history...I really hoped this helped :)

Try these tips:

Try resetting your phone by pressing the home button and the power button until the Apple logo appears

If that doesn't work then...

2. Disable Restrictions

If you cleared history once, then haven't used Safari since clearing it, I believe the button gets disabled because there is nothing to do.

Try opening Safari, load a web page, then return to Settings to see if the button changes.

I also am having the same problem.

After I downloaded the newest software update.

When I go into clear histroy it remains gray no matter what I do.

I tried going into privacy and looking for the suggested settings but all I can see is an icon that says do not track. Even when i turn that off nothing changes also when i have that on the web pages are still stored in my history.

Did you ever figure this out? I have looked at every **** post and done it all and yet nothing seems to work.

I know how to fix this:

SHUT DOWN YOUR DEVICE THEN START IT UP AGAIN THEN REAPEAT.THEN GO TO YOUR SAFARI THEN SEE WHAT YOU WANT TO DELETE(IF FINE CARRY ON) THEN GO TO SETTINGS>SAFARI>SCROLL DOWN TO CLEAR HISTORY PRESS THAT THEN GO TO SAFARI TO SEE IF YOUR DEVICE INTERNET AND SEARCH HISTORY IS CLEARED.THEN SHUT DOWN YOUR DEVICE THEN POWER IT BACK UP SO IT CAN REBOOT. THEN ENJOY YOUR BROWSING!!
