We just upgraded to 10.6 because we had to repalce hard drive anyway, + data recovery.

Now the computer is SLOW, so slow for some website !

who can help?

we did the test at the Apple store and at the store who did the data recovery and it works fine at both places. It seems something happened between our new 10.6 and our internet connexion. We have Att Uverse.

Did you check that you had sufficient HD memory and/or RAM before you upgraded. Read >>

Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -Read the Technical Specifications

Before you start upgrading, back up your files. If you are unsure how best to do this, the following link is hugely informative. Most commonly used backup methods: Apple Support Communities

Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, if your upgrade took you to 10.6.3 you will need to apply the Combo updater. Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 and follow with software updates to pick up the most recent security and iTunes updates.

Where did you obtain the disc from?

Thanks 71;

just checked the hardware overview, it says we have 4GB memory (the website says we ned at least 1gb).

In Disk Utility it says MacIntosh HD Capacity 499.76 GB and available 323,83. Big difference between 4 and 500!

It looks like the memory is ok, right?

The store technician did the upgrade and install the new hard drive so I never checked anything before he did.

We have version 10.6.8

Thanks ot your reply now I at least know where to find all those infos.

And did you open Activity Monitor as OGLETHORPE suggested?

The1GB suggested, is in reality, too little. The 4GB you have is fine.

Suggest you down load Etresoft etrecheck. Here is the link. The author is well known in the forums and the app trustworthy. Then run it through (it will produce a report) which you can paste and post back the results.

Etresoft: EtreCheck

Thank you for the star.

Mar 22, 2014 1:36 AM in response to seventy one

yep did what Oglethorpe said;

Did download EtreCheck, thanks. Says my JavaAppletPlugin is outdated ; then I click on Update but blablablabla. Could that be the reason it is slow?? and that the mic disappeared?

I click on "copy reports to clipbaord" but nothing happens

I chattted with Apple support, told me to reset SMC, I also started in Safe mode...nothing made internet go faster nor bring the microphone back !!! my biggest concern as we cannot skype anymore.

Am so frustrated!

Don't be disconsolate. You're making progress. Easy alternative to transfering the etre check report (we need to see it).

The report is a separate sheet, yes? Leave it in situ and load this thread then click the reply. Manipulate the report in front of the reply box and highlight it, then drag and drop the whole lot into the reply box. Send it to us.

thanks - in fact last night I did send it to myself by email as to have a copy .. here I copied/pasted. Thanks, you are so helpful.

Well done. I see nothing disturbing there, though I note you appear to have no back up (Time Machine) though you do seem to have an unknown Sony(?) disk.

I cannot see anything that would slow down your machine, although there has been some talk about Google Keystone. Perhaps you can disable it, even uninstall. If it is not a problem and you want it you can reinstall.

Mar 22, 2014 8:14 PM in response to seventy one

No Time machine indeed, never used it. SOny is a usb where we have fotos, nothing permanent.

I threw Keynote in the garbage bin ... seems internet goes a bit quicker but it might be kinda wishful thinking; I'll come back in 2 days to confirm how it goes.

This being said, if you have any, ANY idea how to solve the mic problem..... it does not record my voice but when I listen to what I recorde,I hear a lot of static, as if it records the internal computer noices, very strange.

thanks again

Mar 23, 2014 11:53 AM in response to seventy one

I mean Keynote , I had no idea Keystone existed until I just googled is now 😊

And, really, it browses faster than before... except for the apple discussion where it still takes a long time.

I looked for Keystone in the applications and only found google chrome (not my main browser) and google earth. I will look into it tonight.

MIC , the one I use for skype; I check it with garage band, never used google talk.

Mar 23, 2014 12:09 PM in response to phibri

Google Chrome does not show up in etrecheck. Disable or uninstall it (it's easy to reinstall). One of the problems with Chrome is people tend to go mad downloading all the extentions which they don't use anyway. Worse still, they tend to conflict with other extentions from Firefox and Apple. See if that improves things further then we'll look at Garage Band and mic.

Apr 2, 2014 9:29 PM in response to seventy one

I did it all and do not see a big difference. Even called our provider but to no avail. it is hopeless.

Now, our other problem is the mic, works nor with skype nor with Garageband that I used to test it. All i hear is like background noice, as if it records the internal computer noices. All the parameters are fine, the technician at the store did not even notice it does not work as he only looked at all the parameters !

Can you help me with that? it would be great.
