Hi. I backed my Mac up to an external hard drive but when I reinstalled some movies did not install. Looking at external hard drive, it showa the movie folder but the contents are blank. How do I get it back? Thanks

Is this a time machine backup? In addition to the backup external, how many other disks do you have? The more details you give the better the help will be. Do you remember the name of any particular movie such that you can search for it?
Yes time machine. that is the only disk I have except mac HD. This is the error message:
The movie “Despicable Me” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
So you restored your movies from Time machine and now in iTunes you can't play "Despicable Me". Is that right? That movie was in your iTunes media folder, you backed it up to time machine, deleted the movie, restored the movie from time machine?
First try spotlight (the hour glass on the top menu) and type the name of your movie (despicable is enough). Can spotlight find it?
For example, I have the Alien movies. If I type Alien in spotlight I get this
Yes it finds the folder under Itunes Music/Movies but there is nothing in it.
With that folder open, go to applications and click on time machine. Now you'll see a bunch of "iTunes Music/Movies" windows each one representing a different point in time. Scroll back through them until you see one with your movie it in.
