Can you silence the microphone button?

I have an iPad with iOS 7.1, which I use for note taking with Evernote in meetings. I constantly bump the microphone button, which is next to the space bar on the U.S. English keyboard, causing my iPad to make an annoying "ding" sound even when in silent mode. Can this be silenced, or can the keyboard be customized to move the microphone button away from the space bar?
