Mar 21, 2014 10:34 AM in response to Griffin.Cedby turbostar, for unpurchased music, merge your libraries into one
for purchased music, pick the email that has the most purchases and BOTH of you use that itunes account going forward
you will not be able to transfer purchases made by the other email address, that's why i said pick the one that has the most purchases
not ideal but it gets you close and solves the problem going forward

Mar 21, 2014 10:41 AM in response to Kappyby Griffin.Ced,Home sharing seems to only work when we are in the same location. When I take my laptop to work my spouse does not have access to my library, right? I want us to share our music. Like if we purchased CD's then he could load the CD and so could I. Or am I missing something?

Mar 21, 2014 10:44 AM in response to turbostarby Griffin.Ced,Yeah, Turbostar.... I understand what you're saying and I wish we had understood that before. We've been purchasing music from Itunes for more than ten years.... and so it's not possible to just walk away from either library at this point. Is there not some way we can merge our libraries into one account at this point?

Mar 21, 2014 10:51 AM in response to Griffin.Cedby Kappy,★HelpfulThere is only one way. You need a new Apple ID that you will both use. It can be one of the ones you already have. Then you must call Apple and ask if they would be so kind as to transfer everything to the single Apple ID. If you're lucky they will help you out.

Mar 21, 2014 10:53 AM in response to Griffin.Cedby turbostar,★Helpfulare you saying the bulk of your music over the past 10 years has been purchased with both accounts? usually people don't like the sound of leaving music behind but then they look at their library and realize 95% of it is ripped and only 5% purchased. in this case, it is really easy to re-purchase the songs from that 5% that you really want.
if the bulk is purchased across both accounts, then you have a dilemma with no easy solution. apple does not allow you to 'transfer' purchases from one itunes account to another, and i do not think this will change. people have been making complaints for years with no budge from apple.

Mar 21, 2014 11:17 AM in response to turbostarby GeekBoy.from.Illinois,Also keep in mind that you can import her music into your library and she can import yours into her library, then you just authorize both accounts on both computers. Presto, you suddenly have access to all your old music on both computers. My wife and I have been doing this for years.
This method works best if you also chose one ID to use moving forward that way you can setup iTunes to automatically download purchases so if one of you purchases a song, it will automatically download to the other computer and be in both libraries.

Mar 21, 2014 2:04 PM in response to GeekBoy.from.Illinoisby Griffin.Ced,Turbo, thanks for the clarity... if not a solution! I had a program years back that was a virtual burner that could burn music to the desktop. It was helpful to then burn CD's that also tranferred the track information. Right now if I burn a CD I have to then manually type in the track info for each track....
So it sounds like I could ask Apple to consolidate the two accounts but experience has shown that they basically wont, so in the long run it would be better not to buy from apple but rather buy from Amazon and go back to the old school approach. I am in my 50's and remember when the brand for Mac was that it was user friendly. Seems like the company has moved away from that, huh?

Mar 21, 2014 2:07 PM in response to GeekBoy.from.Illinoisby Griffin.Ced,Geek Boy, thanks for your response.... But how do I import the music from another computer? What utilities are there that can facilitate an Ipod transferring back to a computer? Sorry I am not very fluent in Tech.

Oct 23, 2014 9:22 AM in response to Kappyby pullandpray,Google Play is your friend. It will allow you to upload your entire iTunes library. You can access it from anywhere that has access to the internet. On top of that, every time you add a song/album onto iTunes, it automatically uploads it into your Google Play library as well.

Dec 20, 2014 11:00 AM in response to Griffin.Cedby jhd1013,I guess Apple can change... Since this comes up near the top of searches when searching on iTunes sharing, seemed like a good idea to update this thread even though it's old.

Mar 13, 2016 1:34 PM in response to Griffin.Cedby Darrell Reich,There seems to be different scenarios here for music ripped from CDs purchased at concerts (not purchased online) along with old time radio shows for long trips from the internet archive:
1. One computer, two accounts, two apple IDs use the "share" feature
2. One computer, two local accounts, one apple ID
3. Two computers, two accounts, one apple ID, shared network
4. Two computers, two accounts, two apple IDs, shared wifi network with shared network backup drive
I think the answer is move & merge the two iTunes user accounts to users/shared then point both iTunes at the shared folder while the discussion on how to share is for the scenarios with multiple apple IDs. The pros and cons of both have also been discussed (shared calendar, too many passwords to remember, all the text messages show up on all the devices, shared Safari bookmarks, all have system preferences control panel settings to adjust).
Then all the iPhones, iPads, and iMac can see the collection in the library. Make playlists such that each person's favorites can be separated if wife prefers not to start your morning in the car with my road trip playlist of up tempo bluegrass banjo songs for example.
Please help the husband / technical support / DJ find a solution that uses less disk space than two copies of everything.
