how do I open a .spd file?

I have a file with .spd extension that is supposed to be similar to a word document. My computer recognizes it as a binary file and none of the apps on my macbook pro seem to be able to open it. Can some one point me in the right direction, please? Thanks!

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

It looked - to me, and unsure - that it could come from or by a couple different sources/types files.

You can always use "Open With" and not make it default.

you can open a file from within an app. Default only tries to force a document file to open in an app, and it may be it can't but has to be imported or used in some other way perhaps.

Other avenues - if you must - would be to use VirtualBox and install Linux or Windows in a VM and play around, may be platform differences.

well, I thought that this had solved the problem, but after installing File Viewer, then Adobe and making it the defalut for pdf files and then trying to download oracle's unsealer, I am at a road block. I would assume I have downloaded the most recent version of Adobe, but it is telling me that the unsealer will not work with this version of Adobe. Back to square one. Not sure what to try next.

Old thread I know but FYI, .spd might also be a Samsung Galaxy Note memo file -- where you can use the pen to write on the screen. The link above for a way to read it refers to an IBM statistical analysis software file, which is another possibility, but seems less likely in your situation.

I'm not aware of any Mac apps that read/edit Galaxy Note .spd files other than the fact that Evernote can show a preview of the page so you'd be able to read the note.
