I have an iPhone 4s running ios 7.1, should I turn it off at night or can I just leave it locked? Will this damage the phone in any way? Thanks :)

There is no requirement to turn off the phone, other than personal choice. My iPhone hasn't been turned off for months.
Up to you. It will not hurt it. You can turn it on silent, turn on Do Not Disturb if you do not want to hear notifications, or you can turn it off. You can also connect to the charger at night and let it charge until in the morning. It doesn't hurt to turn it off ocassionally though. That helps clear it up.
You can leave it on overnight. On a related note, many plug their phones in to charge overnight.

Why would any company make a phone that would get damaged simplly by leaving it on?
U don't have to but to save power just put it on airplane mode and do not disturb
