Q: Importing deletable photos to ipad mini

How do I move photos to my ipad mini in such a way that I can delete them from my ipad. Using itunes to transfer doesn't allow it. Dragging and dropping from my pc doesn't work.I have tried several ways of using photostream and nothing seems to work. I want to be able to use my ipad to browse large groups of photos and delete the one I don't want. I don't have constant access to wifi or wired internet.

Thanks

You can try e-mailing them to yourself. Or there are some photo apps that allow file sharing (I just don't have any that I can recommend)

YOu could also upload them to somewhere like dropbox and then download them to your iPad which would leave them deletable.

To use the Photos that comes on the iPad you pretty much need to email the photos to yourself then copy them to the Camera Roll.

You might look at Photo Manager Pro however. This app is not free but it allows transfer from your computer to the app using an ftp application on the computer. You can set up albums in Photo Manager Pro and delete photos and albums on the iPad.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).

Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Thank you every one. I usually have to use cell data for Internet access so transferring many photos (thousands) by e-mail or wi-fi isn't practical. Even the camera kit won't be practical for the 1,000s of photos that would have to be renamed. I got the ipad to use as a photo sharing device but I have been shooting digital since 1998. I will probably have to bite the bullet and sell it and get something else. I thought Apple's  reputation was originally based on the ease of dragging and dropping everything so I am totally confused that they don't allow us to do something this simple.
