Old QuickLook "white image" bug still present in Mavericks

If you find two JPEGS with exactly the same dimensions (pixel dimension)...

...and view them in the Finder in list view

...and the two files are adjacent to each other in the list (for example, File1.jpg and File2.jpg)

Then if I press space bar to invoke QuickLook on the files, it will show each file properly, BUT if I use the arrow keys to move between them, then when I move from the second image back to the first image, the first image shows up as a blank / totally empty file.

This message occurs in the Console, but only the first time I attempt to view these identical-dimension files:

This only happens with images that are the EXACT same pixel dimensions.

It has happened since at least 10.7, and still occurs in 10.9.2.

I have reproduced this on two separate machines.

P.S. I have also encountered this issue with PNGs, so it appears to be general and not just limited to JPEGs.

I am experiencing both your size issue and a different bug concurrently.

I also get the 'white' image bug if scrolling through images and then quickly backtracking to a previous one. Then that image will remain white until I close quicklook and reopen it on a different file. Reopening on the same file still results in a white image. Happened under 10.9 and is happening to me under 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro, 2010 iMac and non-apple branded um, mac. Size and file type don't matter.

I get a similar log entries once in a while but the backtracking white image thing doesn't cause quicklookd to spam any console info that is searchable in the console.

Removing quicklook plugins, clearing it's cache and whatnot didn't do anything.

Apparently my 'snap back' issue is was caused by the version of Path Finder 6 I was running on those machines.

It would seem that there are a number of other issues with the 10.9 quicklook API. I guess I'm going to wait and hope it gets fixed.

Just wanted to chime in that I am having this issue and am NOT using "Path Finder 6" (nor has that ever been installed on my machines, since I don't even know what it is!).

The "backtracking -> white image" bug also occurred before 10.9 for me; this is a long-standing issue that is definitely a bug somewhere in QuickLook. Maybe it has something to do with the way it caches image data? No idea.

I seem to have the same issue but only since the mavericks upgrade. Just to double check the error is not on the system, I created another standard user and I previewed the images from quicklook and I couldn't reproduce the issue, so which leaves us to our apps/prefs.

We might be on the same page and only if we could see what application we have in common, we could rectify this issue. If you have the time, PM me your complete app's list and I'll do the same.

PS: To get the list, use this command in the terminal (For /Applications)

find /Applications -type d -name '*.app' -prune -print

For the complete applications list:

mdfind kMDItemContentType=com.apple.application-bundle

I've got the supposedly same "white image" bug. When I go through a list of image files while quick look is open, I'll get a white preview as soon as I go back one file. It does not matter in which direction I got. Either downwards or upwards.

If I go back two steps, I'll get a nice preview again. So this bug only applies to the most recently shown preview.

Another thing to note is, that the screen flashes briefly with the correct preview image.

Having the same problem here. I never realized it was restricted to same-size images only, but I now see that you're 100% correct! Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this very frustrating bug.

Nope - not restricted to same-size images.

I have two iTunes artwork images in a folder - they are the only images in the folder and both are png, one is 1000x1000 and the other is 600x600. Happens even when switching between those. 😠

Just found a temporary workaround at StackExchange: http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/132283/79710

"Press ALT to show image at 100% (and CMD to return image to fit in QuickLook frame). Even if the image has gone blank, this makes it come back for me."
