I can't even connect eith anybody to find out how to get this new lion 10.8. I need the mirror display for my job (teacher) and if it is their fault for giving us an upgrade that took stuff off of our macbooks then why do we have to pay for an upgrade???? I am frustrated and tempted to save up and get a dell!!!! Can anyone shed light on this problem???

The newest version of OS X is 10.9 Mavericks. I don't know what you are looking for?
Mavericks is Free as well, so there should be no cost involved.
What are you talking about? There is no OS X 8.0.

Back up your data, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading Mavericks; if it's incompatible with your computer, so is Mountain Lion. If desired, you can buy a download code for Mountain Lion from the online Apple Store instead, but it's generally only worth doing if you have software compatible with it but not Mavericks.

All I know is that the "mirror display" option on my laptop has disappeared when I know it was there a few months ago. so what do I need to get that back?

If your system is compatible, download and install mavericks - it's free, and provides for multiple monitors.

Forget that anecdotal rumor stuff. OS X 10.9.2 is stable and runs quite well.

The only issue would be if you are running older software that won't work under mavericks.
I concur with Barry. I find Mavericks to be much better then any of the preceeding versions to it.

I only bought this in 2011 so will it work???? I can't lose anything else.
My Macbook pro (late 2008) runs Mavericks fine. You should be good. But backup FIRST.
If your computer is a 2011 model, it will work with Mavericks, but some of the software on it may not. Back up the system before proceeding.

Yes. Though installing a new OSX should not have an affect on user data, do have a backup just in case there are problems encountered.
