At the moment I'm travelling around South East aisa, I was in nah trang in Vietnam nam with friends last night, and spoke too this one guy who had his iphone stolen from the table he was sat on, maybe an hour later I had mine lifted from my pocket. Would love too know if Apple can do anything too block phone or wipe content.

Apple can't/won't do anything, You can if you enabled Find My iPhone before it was stolen and the theif hasn't taken the phone off line by now (highly unlikely that they haven't)

Nope. Did you have Find My iPhone on? If so, you can go to iCloud.com, or sign onto the Find My iPhone app on any iOS device, and either put it in Lost Mode or you can wipe it. However, if you wipe it, then you will be opening up the phone so the thief can use it.
If you put it in Lost Mode, your Find My iPhone will still be signed on, and there will be no way the thief can use the phone for anything other than a paperweight or parts:
