Macmini3,1 samsung 840 evo ssd 3 Gigabit 1,5 Gigabit

I have installed a Samsung SSD HDD 840 EVO 1TB and now the Mac mini slows down on the sata bus.

My system is a Mac Mini 3.1 (late 2009)

I have an OCZ Agility 3 SSD in my late 20o9 Mini and only get 1 .5 GB negotiated speed too.

One passing thought, might it be due to how much power is available, like how many other thing are connected at bootup?

Just adding info, I don't have a SSD, I'm using one of Seagate's Hybrid drives, in a MacMini 3.1, but the connection stays at 3 Gigs.

I just disconnected my FW iSight camera and rebooted and now both the SSD and internal HD say negotiated speed is 3 Gb

Hi ..

Besides the 24" Apple Screen, I have an Eye TV USB only connected. This has been working together with the Old HDD and the standard rotating HDD uses more power compaired to the SSD HHD.

I did unmont the Eyetv USB dongle and sorry to say this again..

Still 1.5Gbit

Since the speed is an intermittent thing, the only variable things I can think of are power & timing during negotiation.

Yes it still shows 3 Gb for the SSD but I lost the internal HD. Does not show at all in System Report. I did both restore and shutdown and button restart..

Popped the top/bottom off and the cable connection to the HD was backed-off a lottle. Resetted and all is well at 3 Gb

with your experience....

I may try to disconnect the DVD drive inside the Mac Mini and boot up again?

Do anybody recommend this try for getting the nagotiating speed up to 3Gbit?

I've the same problem with a MacMini 4.1!

I installed some days ago Samsung 840 SSD mSATA 1GB at my MacMini and it's slow

and buggy. I tryed to install a system serveral times and it crashed, makes copy faults.

Bus Speed 1.5GB/s but it feels like 0.15GB/s.

Firmware from the MacMini and the SSD is the newst, as far as I know...

Any idea?

I have send Samsung an equiry of the problem and below is there answer:

Thank you for your inquiry!

Unfortunately we are not able to help you either. There is something pre-set in some Apple computers, that they just do not negotiate the full link speed with SATA III SSDs. With Windows computers there is always a BIOS update or chipset update to fix this problem, but for Apple computers there is not much you can do, unless Apple provides you with a solution for this.

The SSD is not defective, this is a limitation which comes from the BIOS /FW settings of your computer.
