iphone iMessages sync

Hello - the display on my iphone is out so I'm depending on my MacBook Air to show me my text messages, I am not seeing my most recent text messages showing up in iMessages on my Mac! I can hear them coming in on my phone though. Can anyone help me understand why they don't also come onto my Mac imessages immeditately? How do I get the messages to show up on my mac AND iPhone instantly?
