Export uncompressed AIFF from Garageband ?

I am trying to export AIFF files (uncompressed) from GarageBand. The only way I have found is to export to iTunes since the Export to Disk option makes .m4a . But I don't have control over the export to iTunes parameters in the prefs... Am I missing something ? Besides, I am not very familiar with .m4a files: what kind of file is that ? By its size it looks compressed...

Regarding the AIFFs: Yes, "Export to iTunes" is the way to go. GB exports 16 bit, 44.1 kHz AIFF files by default, no way to change that. The iTunes settings don't have any effects on that. They determine what kind of file you get when you convert the AIFF in iTunes.

The m4a format, which is a flavor of AAC, is Apple's "enhanced Podcast" format. It compresses the audio with rates similar to mp3, and you can include graphics, movies, and chapter markers. It is recognized by iPods and by any computer running Quicktime, but not by most other music players. So you should avoid it if you don't use the "enhanced" features.
